Australia really so good?.....

Yesterday suddenly got a call from Sec 2 classmate saying Andrew one of my classmate sho emigated to Australia wanted to meet up ...he is back in Singapore for holiday. My memory of Andrew is very vague. I just remember hs nickname 'chao hee' which mean smelly ear in hokkien.Andrew dropped out of Sec 2 to go ITE to get his NTC qualifications worked as a mechanic until he emigrated to Australia with the help of his uncle. He has been there for ten yrs.

Our meeting place was Buffet Town at Raffles Place. Andrew told us a lot of stories about moving to Melbourne ....how he learned skiing, work for some ang moh at a workshop . He said pay is much. higher than Singapore ....can buy landed proprty drive a Camry etc. He started showing pictures of his car house wife and children. ....like a bit boasting like that. Then he asked the rest of us how we are doing...I told him I used to workat fastfood restaurant but now jobless still living with my mother. others updated him on how their life is in Singapore....out of 6 pple from our Sec 2 class who remained in spore only 1 person drive car and biggest home was 3room flat. Andrew looked at us like we somewhat pathetic and said leaving singapore before it became overcrowded was the best decision in his life...then he went on and on abt how good Australia is....

At some point I couldn't tahan so I countered....if Australia so good why this woman called Amy Cheong come all the way from Australia to work here and live in HDB flat with void deck?....Andrew was quite taken aback but he pointed out that once she had no job here she flew straight back to Australia so difference is really abt jobs...Australia pay much better for skilled labor but people without specific skills like Amy Cheong.

  1. Think the problem with you is your view on life and what it means to be successful. Your life is only as great as you make it out to be. U can remain useless and miserable or U can go do something about your own life. If all U do is sulk all day about how much of a loser you are, it doesn't matter which country you are in, you will still be a loser.

Having a car or a bigger house does not make U more or less successful than someone who doesn't. I don't own a car, don't need one. I don't live in a condo, but I don't see myself as less successful than someone who does. I was a drop out, I only had an O level cert when I started out which makes me even worse than your friend who have an ITE cert. U probably made more than me when I first started out. My first pay check didn't even hit 1K. I measure my own success by how much of my own goals in life I am able to achieve and I worked towards that.

One of my lifelong goal was to travel the world. I was never going to be able to do that if I stayed where I was. I made the decision to change my life and stop being a loser, I went on to get further my education doing night classes while I work during the day. I managed to get better and better jobs as both my educational level and my work experience so far I have already visited all 6 continents.

At the end of the day it's not about being in SG, Australia, UK, etc. It's all a matter of perspective. How successful a person is depends on how U define being successful. And how successful you are in life will depend on how willing U are to work towards that goal

There are many miserable pple in Australia, just as there are many happy pple in SG. It's how you make of it.

  2. Your thinking is called Ah Q....anything you get just be happy with it.. .things are no good just change perspective.

But this is also as selfish way to r junk.. .to ask ask others to accept just because you accept to ask others to be satisfied with the sys just because you are satisfied.

We must constantly strive to understand so that we can as much make things better not for our selves but also for others
